    Negative Impacts of Internet that I have seen

What is Internet and how it can be harmful:

Internet means inter networking. The Internet connects everyone, that's why it is referred to as a global village. We can get every information on the Internet. Any person can get any information from any part of the world. These and many other facilities of the internet have taken human civilization to a next level. But these facilities have also created new ways of committing crimes. These crimes are much more dangerous than real world crimes. Crimes can be easily committed with the help of the internet.

Cybersecurity problems:

The Internet has opened numerous ways of committing cyber problems. Now anyone’s security can be breached. People can steal identity through the internet. Anyone can get his hands on others important information without even being noticed. This is called hacking. Hackers take others' information without the permission of the owner and sometimes they want money if the owner wants his data back. Hacker’s can steal someone’s profile and use that profile for doing their evil works. Malware is also another big concern. Malware is one kind of software which can infiltrate one’s computer and can damage other softwares. These malwares can come from various links on the internet. Through the internet these malwares can easily spread everywhere. Malwares are capable of damaging one’s device very badly. In this process the owner of the device may lose a lot of important data and sometimes need to buy a new device. Ransomware is one kind of powerful malware which attacks a device and takes over important files and data and wants money from the user. By using the internet one can even comprise national security and pose a very serious threat. Our bank accounts can also be hacked and our money can be easily stolen.

Fake news and manipulation:    

Fake news can spread rapidly through the internet. People who want to create a bad situation or a panic create fake news and spread it through the internet. The fake news can be health related issues , political issues , information about an individual person or international news. These fake news are built in such a way that people are easily attracted and can create panic among them. Sometimes it also creates serious conflicts. A speech or a statement of a person can be manipulated and posted on the internet to frame the person. 

Online bullying and harassment: 

Getting bullied on the internet is very common nowadays. People are bullying a person for a statement that person has given or a picture that person has posted. This online bullying creates a

very negative impact on mental health. It causes anxiety , depression and other problems. Sometimes it also becomes suicidal. People get harassed on social media. Sometimes social media users have to face bad comments and get harassed for no reason. Young people are very much affected by this crime and have serious emotional effects.

Privacy problems: 

Almost every single person now has an account on social media. Everyone shares their information on these platforms. A person shares his opinions , his likings , dislikes , his photos , family photos , his feelings etc. Some people have multiple accounts on different platforms and share information from one to another. Thus anyone can easily know what is happening in one’s life through social media. Anyone can get or access photos of another person. Personal information can be taken and used for negative purposes. Because of sharing everything on social media we don’t have any privacy. We are giving updates of our life every hour , every day.

Thus our information is very much exposed to everyone.

Lack of social skills:

The Internet connects people globally but it is also responsible for losing social skills. With the help of smartphones every person is connected to the internet. People have become so busy with the internet they forgot to be concerned about their social relations and behaviors. Every person is busy to highlight themselves in social media. They are so obsessed with the internet that they don’t care about real life relations anymore. Now people don’t feel like talking with their neighbors. Everyone is losing interest in doing social work. There is also a lack of communication with family members. The Internet is making a distance in real life among people while it’s connecting people virtually. 

Dependency on internet: 

The Internet has made our lives very easy. We use the internet everyday for different tasks. Thus we are getting dependent on the internet for most of our tasks. Because of the internet we don’t have to do hard work in many cases. We are relying on the internet because it saves time. In this way we are losing our creativity. We are also losing our face to face  communication skills , problem solving skills. Nowadays students are totally dependent on the internet. They are using the internet for completing their academic tasks. Students are not trying to solve their problems on their own. They are not using their brains. Because they can easily get their answers from the internet. Students are using different AI softwares to do their assignments and reports. There are also many problem solving platforms and learning apps which can easily give any answers. These features of the internet are making students less productive. Students fail to manage time in exams and their handwriting skills get worse. Students don’t even feel like communicating with their teachers face to face because they already have all the solutions on the internet. This is creating a communication gap between students and teachers.
